AAFT 6th Annual Conference
"Shades of Spirituality and Beyond – Family Therapy Practice in 21st Century Asia"
July 8-9, 2019
Batam Island, Indonesia
You are invited to submit your 200-word abstract to the 6th Annual AAFT Conference 2019, which will be held from 8 – 9 July 2019. Your presentation can take the form of sharing a completed or ongoing research, or a sharing of your clinical experiences in your practice context.
Please submit your presentation plan to AAFT.SciComm@aitiafi.com, together with a brief bio, on or before 15 March 2019.
Your presentation can be in one of these THREE formats:
1. Brief Presentation
- 30 minutes: 20 minutes presentation, followed by 10 minutes of Q & A;
2. Poster Presentation
- Size of the panel is 85 cm wide, and 200 cm high;
3. Case Study Presentation
- 90 minutes: 20 minutes presentation, 30 minutes reflective dialogue, followed by 25 minutes group discussion and 15 minutes of Q & A.
Presentations are to be delivered in the English Language. Presenters will be allocated a presentation slot in the conference schedule by the Conference organising committee.
Presenters for poster presentation will be presenting at a designated timeslot over the two-day conference event.

All abstracts will be reviewed by the Conference Scientific Committee who may request the author to rewrite, change the presentation category, or decline the presentation. Should your presentations be selected, please note that all conference expenses are self-borne.

AFT One-day Conference
AAFT President, Dr. Wai-Yung Lee has been invited to share her encounter with Sal Minuchin at "A Celebration of Salvador Minuchin", a one-day conference organized by AFT in London on Nov-26, 2019.
Le Centre des Buttes-Chaumont Workshop
Ms. Martine Nisse from Le Centre des Buttes-Chaumont invited Dr. Wai-Yung Lee to share her work on our Family Biofeedback Assessment to a group of psychoanalysts in France on Nov-29, 2018. Participants were very excited about our work and the dialogue continued even after the meeting was over!
AAFT 5th Annual Conference
We are delighted to announce that the AAFT 5th Annual Conference had successfully concluded in Taipei on Sunday Oct-28, which over 200 participants from all over Asia and abroad attended. A big thank you to Dr. Hao-Wei Wang, Chair of the Conference Organizing Committee and his team for their hard work in making the conference a huge success.
The opening keynote, “Dancing with Asian families: Dialogue on Differences and Similarities” by our President, Dr. Wai-Yung Lee, set the tone for dialogue for the 3-day conference, which included inspiring exchange and sharing amongst participants from all regions. Dr. Maurizio Andolfi’s post-conference workshop, "Sadness, Self Harm and Suicide Attempts In Adolescents - How To Elicite Resources From Extended Families And Community" once again reminded us of the importance of including children in family therapy.

Basic Certificate Course in Family Therapy (Spring 2019)
Using video segments of actual family interviews, the course will cover the theoretical bases, conceptual frameworks, and skills in marriage and family therapy.
A unique feature of the course lies in its heavy emphasis on live clinical data in raising students’ awareness of theoretical application to clinical practice.
Intermediate Course in Family Therapy (Spring 2019)
The training format emphasizes a hands-on approach and includes didactic lectures, exercises for skill training, group discussions, and role play.
Professionals from various backgrounds including medicine, psychology, social service, education, and other related fields are encouraged to join.
One-Year Advanced Certificate Course in Family Therapy (2018-2019) - Application closed

This is the most hands-on clinical training program for experienced clinicians who wish to acquire a systemic perspective.
Marriage & Family Therapy Clinic: Live Case Demonstration
The Live Case Demonstration provides a rare opportunity for participants to observe and experience clinical interviews in action at the Family Clinic. The case formulation and reflective analysis preceding and following the demonstration will enable participants to share their experiences and insights with our trans-disciplinary team of experts.
Family Therapy with Psychiatric Patients - FULL
The course consists of eight didactic lectures and two live case demonstration sessions. It aims to introduce how family therapy can be applied to a range of mental health problems presented in children, adolescents and adults. Videos from live sessions will be used extensively to illustrate the assessment and treatment process in linking the presenting symptom to family dynamics. The course will also show how a range of behavioral and emotional problems is addressed in the family context. The lectures will be taught by experienced psychiatrists and the demonstrations will be conducted by Wai-Yung Lee, Ph.D.
